Westmill delivers dryer drive to Sunpine
Westmill has supplied a Veneer Dryer Drive Tower to West Fraser LVL (formerly known as Sunpine) at Rocky Mountain House, Alberta Canada. The tower was for an existing Coe M-72 Dryer. Westmill designed the frame to drop right into place, using the existing foundation anchor bolts. Robust and simple, Westmill’s Drive Tower has no wearing parts. Independent Drives also provide increased veneer recovery in the event of a Dryer plug-up. The tower consisted of a heavy steel tube frame, along with of 4 levels of Baldor 7.5 HP AC motor, Nord-Gear “Sawmill series” gear reducer, and 81X drive sprocket. Variable frequency drives and cabinet were supplied by Sunpine. Westmill supplied electrical site installation by Controls Engineer Bill Vanee, as well as field modifications to the existing touch screen controls. Sunpine was very happy with the project, which they installed over their Christmas 2006 shut down. Bill arrived at the mill and walked into problems that only were realized while we were taking apart the old set up. He worked long days (Friday was 16 hours) and stayed with it until we got it going during a time of year when people really want to be elsewhere. He came back on Saturday without hesitation for final checks. Without his help it would have been a much tougher job. Our hats are off to Bill.
