Westmill Supplies Dryer to Forintek, Canada's Wood Science Leaders
Westmill has supplied a scale test Dryer to Forintek Canada Corporation. Forintek is Canada’s wood products industry pioneering non-profit research and development organization committed to improving mills’ performance and production. After hearing about the success of Westmill's Federated Co-Operatives Dryer project, Dr. Chunping Dai of Forintek Canada Corporation approached Westmill to discuss the possibility of working together on a new "State of the Art" Veneer Dryer Control System. "Sometimes timing is everything", says Westmill President Mike Crondahl, as Westmill had already been developing a Dryer Control System. "We are really looking forward to working with Forintek's group of Scientists & Engineers. They will really help ensure that the finished product is truly the most advanced Dryer Control system available to date." Delivered in April 2003, the Dryer is a 5-foot wide 3-section Dryer that is be able to run as a Roller Jet Dryer, a Cross-Flow Dryer, or a Longitudinal Dryer by simply removing jet boxes and air-deflector baffles. In order to work with Forintek’s limited budget, Westmill was able to incorporate used rolls, conveyor components, and jet boxes, along with reused doors and main fan. To complement the used parts, Westmill supplied a new Dryer framework, insulated & seal welded housing, new drives for the fan and conveyor, an insulated floor, and a new steam coil. To simplify Forintek’s field installation, Westmill assembled the entire Dryer into 1 complete unit that was loaded onto a truck, moved to site and simply dropped onto Forintek’s foundation, ready for operation.
